Do You Know Where You Fail In Your Marketing Strategy?

In my last post I set out the plan for small business owners who have the desire to grow their business through networking and referrals.   Since then we have ran our workshop: ‘Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn… What Tha’ with some great success and are in the process of constructing some video content around the presentation.

Stay tuned for details…

The focus for today is to outline and discuss the different methods that can be utilised to grow your business through offline networking.

So…

What are the essentials – the need to knows?

How do I position myself and my business for referrals?

What results can I expect?

Let’s get cracking…

The Essentials – Need to know

  1. Building a business around referrals required a givers gain approach.  Quite simply - It’s not about you, It’s about them! In order to receive referrals (quality referrals), you first have to give one, or two, or three….
  2. Start looking for industries, businesses or individuals whom are targeting the same clients as you, but are not in competition with you or each other.
  3. Structure a plan of attack.  How are you going to approach these people, with a solid proposal in order to build a strong referral relationship?
  4. Execute! Like everything in life, you can have the best product or service available, but if know one knows about it, you have nothing.  Start calling and meeting people – Network For Profit

Networking: The importance of incorporating an online & offline strategy

I am often asked to explain the difference between online and offline networking and which one is the most effective in growing a business. My answer is always, well it depends on what outcome you are looking for from networking.

In this 4 part series I will endeavour to explain…

  • Online and Offline model
  • The pros and cons of both on and offline networking
  • How to best target your message for on and offline networking
  • How to get the maximum cut-through for your business

I am interested to hear your experience, results etc. by way of comments and feedback with regards to these blog articles.

In line with these blogs, we will also be hosting an event in Brisbane, Australia on the 9th September which will specifically focus on online networking (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter…) and the basics of how to begin creating T.O.M.A around your personal brand.

4 Simple Strategies That Will Make You Stand Out From The Crowd

In today’s cluttered marketing space, it is getting harder and harder for small business owners to get their message heard… Especially since the launch of social media.

The days of the standard local newspaper or yellow pages advertisements have gone.

So is this a big issue or a HUGE OPPORTUNITY for SME’s?

I believe it is huge opportunity.  There has never been a better and easier time for the small business owner to get their message heard.  This are a couple of catches however…

Whilst the general rules of marketing have not changed, today’s small business owner needs to be really clear on….

  • Who their target customers is (this is even more important in today’s environment)
  • How they want to play the game (what marketing strategy to incorporate)
  • Are they after market-share or wallet-share (I prefer wallet-share myself)
So here are my 4 Simple Strategies That Will Make You Stand Out From The Crowd…
  1. Get Clear… I mean really clear – Laser Focused - on who your target customers are
  2. People by of people: what does your Personal Brand look like?
  3. Develop and execute both an Online and Offline Strategy
  4. Get Educated: Surround yourself with experts… You don’t need to know everything but you need to know the people who do.
So, what are your thoughts?
How are you cutting through the marketing clutter and standing out from the crowd?

Business Owners Who ‘Know It All… Are Not Invited To Read This Page

As a professional networker, a connector of people. I am privileged to meet a number of new business people through offline and online networking daily.

What astounds me is the large number of individuals and business owners who continue to say these three words….

I Know That

Interestingly enough, this is the response I hear to questions relating to marketing, personal branding or networking and almost always comes from small business owners.

Now, I wonder if you spoke with Dale Beaumont, Frank Kern or even Sir Richard Branson (three extremely well known and specialists in their industries about their knowledge regarding marketing, personal branding or networking. I wonder if they would say they know it all or if they would be open to the idea of another view point. I believe it would be the later – being open to receive new view points.

You see, the moment you say those three words I Know That your subconscious immediately blocks the opportunity for allowing any new learning’s to be heard, thus your mind and your business stagnates.

So next time you are about to answer a question, Stop, Pause and Think before you answer the question.

Make it a great day!

P.S. This 7 minute video may be the Most Important Message You Will Ever Here

The 6 Things Business Owners Must Do Every Day…. But Don’t

If your an entrepreneur like me (big picture & hate the detail) then this is the blog for you.

I cannot tell you how much I hate the detail – just tell me the cost and what the ROI will be (that’s good enough for me).  However becoming a master of the detail is vitally important for a business to survive, yet it is often never given the time required.

So what do I mean by detail?

The in’s & out’s, numbers, margins, profits, marketing message…… the list goes on. Essentially if you want to be a “Business Owner” not someone who has just bought themselves a job, then knowing the detail is imperative.

Knowing the detail will literally transform a good business into a GREAT BUSINESS!

So exactly what do you need to know and how should you go about acquiring the skills and knowledge?

Here is my list of 6 things business owners must do every day…. but don’t.

  1. Lead Generation
  2. Marketing/Advertising
  3. Internet Marketing
  4. Systems
  5. Time Management
  6. Personal Development
Personally I recommend starting with number 6. Personal Development.  After all if you expect other people to invest in you i.e. customers, you should really start by investing in yourself.
So, where are you at? Do you know all the detail? Are you looking at these 6 areas on a daily basis? If not, I strongly suggest you start today.

Personal Branding 101

I have received a number of questions relating to creating a personal brand of late, so I thought I would summarise my 3 tips for success and share them with you. Similar to Penny Powers – Ecademy philosophy: Know Me; Like Me; Follow Me – I have found the following are most relevant when developing a personal brand.

So here they are….

1. Be Seen

2. Be Heard

3. Be Credible

So what do I mean by this?

1. Be Seen: You must be visable in the market place, specifically in the ‘niche market’ you are operating in daily. Networking is a key component of this step. You need to spend some time identifying where your target market networks and attend. Remember your Grow300.com training – the way you introduce yourself counts, it needs to be specific.

2. Be Heard: It’s all about cut through. You could have the best product or service in the world, but if you are marketing to the wrong market i.e. women 35-54 when your market is males 18-34 you are going to learn an expensive lesson – trust me here. Spend some time identifying who really is your target market, then develop a strategy to communicate effectively with them.

3. Be Credible: This is where the money is made! Becoming the trusted advisor or industry expert will transform your business. This isn’t easy, it requires commitment, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning.

Further information on what I have spoken about here, is discussed in greater detail at Grow300.com. Well that’s it from me, enjoy your day and remember…

3 Weekly Goals – Global Network Builder

This week at Global Network Builder our workshop is focused on goal setting, specifically what you plan to achieve for the next three weeks. Here are 3 simple tips to keep you on track:

Focus your goals around a specific outcome i.e. To generate $50,000 or better in new business. (you may need to make 10 calls or 100 calls, it really doesn’t matter) It’s about the end result.

Utilize the S.M.A.R.T Principle. (refer – http://www.grow300.com)

Ensure your goals are focused on tasks that will improve your business. I always use the Time, Team, or Money approach (refer – http://www.actioncoach.com)

Remember, just like property and shares, your business is a vehicle. If you feed and maintain it well success will follow.

To your success!
